BJJ black belt Ryan Hall was watching ADCC 2015 attentively and made a remark about the prevalent leg lock style in the tournament. Hall is no stranger to the ADCC as he placed 3rd in 2009 in Barcelona in a division with Rafael Mendes and Cobrinha.
Hall was impressed by Angusto ‘Tanquinho’ Mendes’ performance in shutting down the hyped Eddie Cummings leg lock game in their quarter final match.

Augusto Tanquinho Mendes
Cummings was on a tear of heel hook submission victories, having won EBI 4 and came into ADCC as a potential medalist. At ADCC, he submitted his first opponent with a heel hook in 30 secs but then faced BJJ world champion (Gi and No Gi) Augusto ‘Tanquinho’, who is an elite grappler. Mendes was able to beat Cummings on points due to his superior passing game and balance.
Ryan Hall’s Twitter statement:
@tanquinhojj 's base and passing are a scathing indictment of the idea that leglocks are some kind of secret to beating elite grapplers.
