Rener Gracie Compares Ryron-Barnett with Helio-Kimura

Ryron Gracie put up a valiant effort against Josh Barnett last night at Metamoris 6. Against the 60 lbs heavier catch wrestler Barnett, Ryron was able to defend Barnett’s pressure, but was caught in a toe hold at the 13th minute. Ryron tapped and saved himself from a serious injury.

Rener Gracie, Ryron’s younger brother saw many similarities between that match and the legendary Helio Gracie vs Masahiko Kimura match that happened back in 1951. Rener posted on his Facebook:

I couldn’t be more proud of the courage, technique and humility displayed by my brother @ryrongracie last night. As I reflected upon the match, I couldn’t help but compare it to the legendary 1951 match between Helio and Kimura. This morning I woke up to the realization that both matches lasted exacted 13 minutes. Either it was a complete coincidence, or it was a subtle hint that our grandfather was watching from upstairs. I hope he was proud.
