Megaton Dias, The First Ever Coral Belt to Compete at the IBJJF World Championships

Wellington “Megaton” Dias is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend. He has been one of the most frequent competitors in the older age brackets, and has once been a top competitor in the adult division.
He has stayed with the same instructor, Royler Gracie, his whole life and has always been a competitor under the Gracie Humaita banner.

Wellington “Megaton” Dias, father of BJJ legend Mackenzie Dern, a respected veteran of Gracie Humaitá, made history on June 3rd at the IBJJF Worlds competition. At 55 years old, he became the first coral belt to compete in the adult category. Although his time on the mat was brief, lasting less than a minute, it was a noble effort.

Unfortunately, he was submitted by Norwegian Espen Mathiesen with a lethal foot lock in the lightweight category. Nevertheless, Megaton’s achievement as a coral belt is noteworthy and inspiring. Let his example encourage you to pursue your passions regardless of age. Oss!
