Kim Terra Puts 2 Year Ban Behind, Makes Triumphant Return to Worlds

Kim Terra was banned for 2 years by IBJJF in 2009 for having kicked the sponsor stands at the Worlds, and having called a few names to head referee Muzio de Angelis, face to face and online.

Kim Terra made a strong comeback last weekend to the world’s taking 3rd place in the light feather weight, losing to gold medalist Paulo Miyao.

His younger brother Caio Terra was very proud and wrote on his Facebook, praising his brother:

In 2009 my brother was dq’d and banned for 2 years from competition by the IBJJF. I believed he had an amazing future in Jiu Jitsu and couldn’t believe he threw it away. Needless to say I was extremely upset with him.
When most people said it’s Kim being Kim, that was never good enough for me because I know he is better than that.
I have always expected more from him because I know what he is capable of.
Thats why I was extremely happy when he said he was going to law school 5 years ago. He will make a positive difference in the world after he graduates this summer.
As he grows as a person he always continues to surprise me. This year in addition to graduating law school he told me he wanted to fight at the worlds once again. I was shocked. This was Kim’s first worlds since 2009 and the first time at black belt. Fighting in a weight class he hadn’t since the time where he still trained regularly, just making weight was going to be challenge. I wasn’t shocked that he wanted to compete I was shocked at how hard he trained and dedicated himself.
In the end he made the podium, something he had dreamed about for a long time. I don’t say it as often as I should but I am proud of my brother, who he is and who he has become. I always knew you were destined for great things, and the best is yet to come!
