Jacare On Romero: ‘It’s Not That Easy To Take Me Down’

UFC Middleweight contenders Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza and Yoel Romero were originally scheduled to clash at UFC 184 on February 28th in Los Angeles, but the bout was put on hold due due to Jacare contracting pneumonia. UFC confirmed the fight in the co-main event of UFC on Fox 15 in Newark, New Jersey on April 18th, but it was cancelled again because of injury.

Now the bout is scheduled for at UFC 194, in Las Vegas, on December 12. The winner could get a title fight against the winner of champion Chris Weidman vs Luke Rockhold.

Jacare is a multiple time BJJ and ADCC world champion and Romero is a 2000 Olympic Silver medalist in freestyle wrestling for Cuba.

Jacare respects Romero’s Olympic wrestling skills, but believes that he will not be able to take him down.

Jacare told Portal do Vale Tudo:

That’s a fight that can unfold in many ways. If it should go to the ground, I won’t waste a chance to use my jiu-jitsu and submit him. Every fight starts standing, though. He’s an excellent wrestler, the best one in the UFC, but it’s not that easy to take Jacare down.
