Fedor Emelianenko To Compete in Combat Sambo Tournament Next Month

According to Russian news website Tass.ru, Fedor Emelianenko will return to his combat Sambo roots and compete in a tournament on November 25 in Monaco.

As translated by Bloody Elbow’s Karim Zidan:

“Fedor has already confirmed his participation in the competition.

The tournament will feature competitors from France, the United States and Saudi Arabia. The 1984 Olympic champion in Judo and member of the Executive Committee of the International Judo Federation, Yasuhiro Yamashita, will also compete at the tournament.

Members of the Monaco royal family, the Saudi Arabia royal family, as well as the “leaders of the UN, the Council of Europe, the World Bank and others” will likely attend the event.

This could be a good tune up fight for Fedor. The 39-year-old Emelianenko will join former Pride boss Nobuyuki Sakakibara for a Dec. 31 event in Japan called ‘Rizin Fighting Federation’.

Fedor Emelianenko’s opponent is rumoured to be kickboxer Jaideep Singh, 29 years of age. This Indian-Japanese heavyweight is 1-0 in MMA. In his only MMA fight, Singh beat Alireza Tavak via elbows in the first round. Tavak was 0-1 going into that fight, and has not fought since.

Fedor is Combat Sambo’s GOAT with 4 world championship Gold medals. His last combat Sambo match was a loss to Bulgaria’s Blagoi Ivanov who defeated him in the semifinals of the 2008 championships in St. Petersburg, Russia.
