CM Punk has been a point of contention for many UFC fans. The 39 year old bjj blue belt has a 0-1 record in the octagon and many don’t feel he belongs in the promotion let alone on a main card.
After rumors started surfacing that Punk will get a 2nd shot in the octagon he himself went on the mma hour and said:
We’re back at it. We’re back to the drawing board. I felt like I was in the best shape of my life still, so I just kept after it. I think that’s the best thing you can do after you lose. This is what I do now. This is what I’m going to do now. If I can do it for you [UFC President Dana White], awesome. If not, I’ll still bug you for tickets to your show.
However here’s where things get tricky. While we’ve been aware for a while Phil Brooks aka CM Punk is likely to get a 2nd shot in the octagon nobody foresaw he’d be able to trump a seasoned veteran such as Alistair Overeem on a main card.
White on Overeem being on the UFC 225 prelims: When Alistair Overeem sells as many pay-per-views as CM Punk does, we can argue. #UFCLiverpool

“It shouldn’t even be on the Tuesday Night Contender show,” Rogan said. “It should be on some amateur event somewhere. That’s really what they are. They’re guys learning how to compete.”
