Dern has had a rocky road ahead of 2nd MMA fight – she missed weight on Thursday as she tipped the scales at 118.3 pounds which is more than two pounds over the allowed weight limit (strawweight). A part of her Legacy FC 61 purse will be given to Stewart due to missing weight. She did come through and in quite a spectacular fashion! (fight video attached on the bottom)
As a part of the promotional package ahead of the fight Dern discussed what gave her the push to go into MMA and how her jiu-jitsu journey began.
“About 5 years ago MMA was not gonna happen. Then I kinda won a lot of things in jiu-jitsu and then I was at a point like what do I want to do now? A new challenge…”
Dern continues: ” In my opinion what Ronda did for women’s mma is incredible. She really showed that a woman can make a living off of doing mma. That’s a big thing in why I decided to try this”
