It’s been a tough weekend for Keenan Cornelius. Cornelius opted to compete at Japanese National Championships 2017 only to get injured in the finals of Absolute division. Looks like Abu Dhabi World Pro is a no go for Keenan.

According to an onlooker:

I was lucky enough to stumble upon an IBJJF tournament while in Tokyo and it just so happened that Keenan Cornelius was there continuing his quest for greatness! This match shows him competing against Leandro de Souza Kussano from Over Limit BJJ. Kussano had an impressive performance during his first match of the Black Belt Open so it was expected to be an intense match. During a takedown attempt Kussano ended up twisting Keenan’s knee so bad they had to stop the match. After some deliberation he decided to continue and went on to submit Kussano. However, he decided to throw in the towel and forfeit the championship match to prevent further damage.
