UFC veteran Phil Baroni Claims He Was Framed in Girlfriend’s Death

Legendary mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Rampage Jackson recently discussed the troubling allegations against fellow UFC veteran Phil Baroni on a recent podcast episode. Baroni is currently incarcerated in Mexico, accused of murdering his girlfriend.

According to Jackson’s account, he had spoken to Baroni while both men were in Japan, where Antonio McKee’s son was scheduled to compete in a fight. Jackson said he asked McKee if he could arrange a bare-knuckle fight for Baroni. A few days later, the friend of the alleged victim direct messaged Jackson, informing him that Baroni had murdered her best friend.

Jackson also mentioned that Baroni remains in a Mexican jail awaiting trial. He stated Baroni has been detained since shortly after their conversation in Japan.

While the exact circumstances are still unclear, Jackson said the victim was found deceased in the shower apparently due to blunt force trauma. However, Baroni claims innocence, maintaining he returned home to discover his girlfriend already dead.

Jackson reported Baroni and his lawyer continue asserting his innocence, explaining Baroni left the residence for an errand and discovered the victim upon his return.

Jackson further acknowledged still owing Baroni payment from a previous agreement wherein Baroni assisted with an appearance. However, Baroni’s prolonged detention in Mexico has complicated repayment efforts.

Jackson stated Baroni has been held in Mexico for over a year. If convicted of this crime, Baroni’s long career in MMA, including in the UFC and Pride FC, will likely be tarnished.

The details remain uncertain but these serious allegations could end Baroni’s time as an MMA fighter. Baroni made his UFC debut in 2001 and later competed in Pride FC and other promotions. He will be housed at Venustiano Carranza State Jail in Tepic, Mexico until his trial.
