UFC fighters Anthony Rumble Johnson and Curtis Blaydes recently had a Sumo Wrestling match at the recent SubStars grappling event in Miami, Florida.
The ancient Japanese martial art of sumo pits two rikishi wrestlers against each other in a circle ring. The goal is to push the opponent outside of the circle or to make the opponent place a hand on the mat with a snapdown for example.
Sumo originated in the mid 16th century in Japan and remains exteremly popular in Japan today.
Both Anthony Johnson and Curtis Blaydes have a strong wrestling background so this wasn’t foreign to them.
