“Dear BJJEE,

I would like to share with you some thoughts I had on the upcoming Metamoris 7 and why I’m gonna watch it (and pay for it) even if the event won’t be as much full of grappling stars as it used to be.

I have the feeling that a lot of people are happy about Metamoris having such financial issues, and that they want that the next event would be the tombstone of the brand.

Despite I also had this feeling at a certain point, I started to think about the whole situation.

Ralek created Metamoris and it was the first time a lot of grappling fanatics were able to see these huge matches between grappling legends and they were a lot of fun. Maybe the rules were not perfect but we were able to see something never seen before at that level.

I think that no one can argue if I say that the “submission only” event (EBI, Polaris, ecc) had a great boost thanks to Metamoris.

I can say moreover that a lot of important names we can hear today in the grappling scene (Gary Tonon, Dillon Danis, AJ Agazarm, ecc) were relatively unknown before their appeareance in Metamoris.

Another important point that make me watch the event is the BJJ Philosopy that I started to learn since the very first day on the mat, something that in my opinion can be summarised in 3 small points: be humble, you can either win or learn, fall down seven time stand up eight.

If you look at those points, can they be associated to Metamoris or to Ralek Gracie? Let’s see:

Be humble – It may not seem to be the case for Ralek probably for the way he speaks, but if we check on what he did, we may change our mind. When the problem with some grapplers and their paycheck was brought to the public, at a certain point Ralek explained his situation, including financial issues, without blaming anyone but himself and promising a full payment as soon as possible, It looks enough humble to me at this point.

You can either win or learn – Can we say that Ralek didn’t learn from his errors? What I read from his statements is an analysis of what went wrong, which were the wrong choices and the possible actions to make right decision in the next events.

Fall down seven, stand up eight- I guess that is the most important. Ralek could have chosen to close this business and sell what remains of the brand but instead he decided to fight (literally) and stand up once again.

About the beef he has with AJ Agazarm, I actually think he goes too far. I understand the frustration about not being paid, but is also true that with Metamoris he got the bigget exposure he can get.

I cannot say that he was unknown before Metamoris, but for sure it was a way less known before than after. If I can say taht Ralek was humble, I can’t say the same for AJ: it has never been humble in the whole situation, not even in his fight.

He could even take the opportunity to fight against Ralek instead of Gary Tonon, who doesn’t want to see that match?

Thanks for reading, cheers,

G
