Day one of World Judo Championships in Buda Pest was quite exciting. The audience had a chance to observe a number of terrific throws and some nice newaza.
Even though Travis Stevens at one point called there was a lack of Newaza in judo, day one of championships seriously disproved it.
Just last summer Stevens was quoted saying:
“But then we’d look around the room and all the 1-10 [ranked athletes] are sitting out of the newaza or when they’re doing it, they’re like ‘oh yeah, he pinned me or whatever’ or ‘oh he did this’ — halfassing it.”
