18 yr Old BJJ Blue Belt Defeats New Wave Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt

In a BJJ competition, anything can happen. You will often see surprises, especially in the No Gi divisions where some competition mix the belt levels. It’s not uncommon to see a blue belt face a black belt. This often leads to upsets:

140lbs Purple Belt Subbed 300lbs Black Belt In Jiu-Jitsu Tournament

This recently happened in a the ADCC Grappling competition in Germany where a 18 year old blue belt Linus von Schrenk (now purple belt) defeated Cameron Florczak, a Canadian BJJ black belt who trains under John Danaher in Austin, Texas and competes all over the world with great results for New Wave Jiu-Jitsu.

Linus’ coach described their strategy for the match. Linus would be very aggressive and attack non stop, trying for takedowns. He shot in the match close to 30 takedowns, mostly low singles. They also had worked a lot on the turtle position so as to get back up as soon as they were defending a takedown.

Linus was relentless and was able to get the decision win against his much more experienced and stronger opponent.
