Video: Hillary Williams Throws Gabi Garcia with Ippon Seoi Nage

Gabi Garcia is a the most dominant female in the history of Jiu-Jitsu. She has won the BJJ world championships an amazing 9 times.

Since 2007, she has only 4 times: to Ana Carol Vidal, Ana Laura Cordeiro, Lana Stefanac and Hillary Williams.

In 2009 Gabi Garcia faced Hillary Williams in the finals of the No Gi Worlds. Hillary realized the amazing feat of throwing Gabi with Ippon Seoi Nage, a moved that she had only practiced once in training!

Hillary described on MMA.tv the match and the controversy afterwards regarding Gabi’s disqualification:

“Third match was against Gabrielle Garcia. She is bigger than you can imagine, holy hell. And stronger too. She pushed me around and the ref was telling me he was going to take points away if I kept fleeing the mat. She was pushing me out! Hahah. I took a hard slap to the face but I don’t think it was personal. Then, in an act of either God or Judo, I waited for her to push and hit a drop saionage (sp?) that, for the record, I have never, ever done before except drilling one time in Texas before ADCC.

The IBJJF rules state that controlled on takedowns must be maintained for 3 seconds or the throw must be an ipon, with the back flat on the mat, to get the two points. So I got them, despite her getting back up. Here’s the part where knowing Portuguese helped me out. She said, “Stop, stop, I’ve got a cramp,” and she started to work out the cramp in her hand. I’m f*cking pissed, because never once have I gotten to take a timeout. She didn’t use the word for “wait” or “hold on,” she said “stop.” And so the ref said, “fine, verbal tap.” And raised my hand. Then she said for us to go f*ck ourselves, blah blah. It sucked, because I don’t like anyone to be mad at me, I’ve got nothing but respect for her, and I don’t want to win that way, but rules are there for a reason and by our level you should know the rules in and out.”
