Ricardo Evangelista was one of the stars at the Carlifornia World Jiu-Jitsu Championship, when he defeated the biggest favorite Marcus Buchecha Almeida in the 3rd round of the absolute category. “Jegue” (nickname meaning Donkey) praised his determination to achieve victory at the last seconds, after sweeping the adversary. He used a set strategy based on a strong standup game and heavy pressure to defeat the champion.

He told Tatame:
“On the path to get Buchecha, I felt a little of the pressure at first, and after I fought Cassio, a strong guy. I arrived confident to face Buchecha, I had already set some strategies to kill his standing position. The goal at the fight was not to give up, I believed in myself until the end and achieved the result”, celebrated Evangelista, who in the semifinals opened the way for his training partner Trans.

The final move of the contest, that gave victory to “Jegue”, cost an injury on the knee to Buchecha, who had to leave the competition. Evangelista is hoping for his opponent’s recovery.
“I wanna wish him a good recovery, I heard he is injured and I know what it fells like. Good recovery Buchecha”, he said.
