Used to fighting among the medium heavyweights, André Galvão enrolled in ultra heavyweight division of the 2014 Pan , which will be held 12-16 March in Irvine, California.

The black belt, seeking another title in the competition, explained in an interview with Tatame, why he chose to challenge the giants.

“I wanted to fight in this weight class. I did it once in the brown belt. I know the black belt is quite different, but I did it for fun, to motivate my students and to help my team too. A lot of people from my team are in medium heavy. So, I chose to fight the ‘monsters’.”

A multiple time world and ADCC champion, Galvao said that he was motivated to add another medal to his collection and stressed that his passion for the sport is strong:

“I like to compete. I love what I do. I do not know yet when I’ll stop. I like to train and have fun with my students. I like to motivate each of them and motivate my fans and people who follow my career. God gave me this talent, I do not want to waste it. I have dreams and I hope to be an example to people for years to come. “
