Pacing itself ahead of a big month, the AJP chose to open the month of April with a single tournament: The AJP Tour Charleston International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024!
Held on April 6th at the Thomas C Cario Middle School in South Carolina, the tournament was open for colored and black belts from all over the world, welcoming one and all to fight for gold, glory, and ranking points in the US.
At the highest level of the sport, black belts from the Professional and Master categories gave a lesson in technique to the attending crowd and other athletes who are still on the journey to become a part of Jiu-Jitsu’s elite.
Starting at the Women’s 95kg division, the Brazilian Polyanna de Araújo (Park West BJJ) went toe-to-toe against her fellow countrywoman and teammate Adrianny Ilary.
The battle was not an easy one, with both sides dishing out attacks while defending any dangerous advances, and the scoreboard remained unchanged throughout the duel.
When the clock ran out, the referee decided that Polyanna was more aggressive and effective during the match, giving her the victory and the division gold.
Another Park West BJJ competitor vying for the gold, Brazil’s Robson Feitoza had his skills on full display as he outmaneuvered his countryman Walber Barros (Upper Academy Florida), scoring 4-1 to become the Master 1 94kg division champion.
Walber returned to the mats later on, this time fighting without the gi to conquer the Master 2 94kg title, and faced the local Anthony Wikstrom (Soul Fighters) in a battle that lasted the entirety of the regulated time and ended up in a 3-0 victory for the Brazilian.
