Khabib Nurmagomedov Was Called (Yet Again) To Compete At UFC – Here’s What He Said

Khabib Nurmagomedov, often celebrated as one of the greatest mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters ever, left an incredible mark on the sport – with an impeccable 29-0 record.

However, back in October 2020, Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from MMA; a decision deeply influenced by the loss of his father and coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.
And, despite the passage of nearly four years and the temptation of lucrative offers, Nurmagomedov has remained steadfast in his decision.

Speculation about a possible return to the cage was addressed by Nurmagomedov ahead of the UFC 300 event scheduled for April 13:

I know they [UFC] connected with Ali [Khabib’s manager], but I told Ali… Never call me about a fight.

They never connect with me directly, but I know some people from the UFC connected with Ali, but I told them already once…
I told them a lot of times — all the people that tried to bring me back — that I decided [to retire] in October 2020.

It was my last fight and I will never change this.

In the time since Nurmagomedov stepped away from active competition, his legacy has continued to influence the lightweight division through the rise of his friend, Islam Makhachev.

Makhachev has ascended to the top of the lightweight rankings, capturing the title with a spectacular second-round submission of Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 and successfully defending it against Alexander Volkanovski twice.
