Coach: Fight For Lightweight Belt In April, Then Fight Edgar In July

After becoming the undisputed featherweight champion of the world, Conor McGregor hosted a solo press conference.
Conor McGregor discussed what’s next for him, as well as a possible fight at lightweight with the winner of Donald Cowboy Cerrone and Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC on Fox 17.

McGregor also stated that he will not vacate his featherweight belt.

So what is next for McGregor?

In an interview with MMAFighting.com, McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh talked about what is next:

“I do think the next one will be lightweight for the belt. Maybe that’s going to be around April. March, April — something like that. … Maybe that and then July, UFC 200. Maybe he’ll defend the featherweight belt against Frankie on that card. He’s never gonna wait until July. Even if I was to suggest it or encourage it, I know it’s a pointless effort.”

Kavanagh said UFC matchmaker Joe Silva has given them permission to do what they want:

“I kind of said to him, ‘Well, what’s next? He kind of said, ‘Well, at this stage, it’s kind of up to you.’ … I was like, ‘I like how that sounds… Everybody’s time will come,” he said. “Everybody will get their shot against him. People have to be a little patient, but it definitely will come.”
