Charles do Bronx: “Demian Maia Had The Best Jiu-Jitsu In The UFC”

In the world of UFC, few names resonate with “Jiu-Jitsu” like Charles do Bronx and Demian Maia.

Charles, a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and the record holder for the most submissions in UFC history, recently made a bold statement on the “Connect Cast” podcast.
Namely, despite his impressive record of 16 submissions, Charles humbly said that Maia had the best Jiu-Jitsu within the UFC:

Demian Maia is the best Jiu-Jitsu practitioner that UFC has ever seen. He’s a phenomenon!

I always say that my Jiu-Jitsu is about seizing opportunities…
If there’s a chance to finish, I take it.

But Demian, he’s on another level. His skills are unparalleled.

At 34, Charles do Bronx has an impressive MMA record of 34 wins, 9 losses, and one no-contest.
He recently secured a dominant victory over Beneil Dariush by knockout in the first round, at UFC 289.

Demian Maia, retired from professional MMA since 2021, left the sport with a record of 28 wins and 11 losses.
The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt had contended for the UFC title twice. In 2010, he faced Anderson Silva for the middleweight title; and in 2017, he challenged Tyron Woodley for the welterweight championship – though he was defeated on both occasions.
