EBI just concluded it’s 12th edition – this one unique for featuring an all women tournament for the huge cash prize and the Combat jiu-jitsu mini tournament featuring women to boot.

One of the biggest surprises came with the elimination of Pati Fontes in the 1st round of the tournament by the home team’s Katherine Shen – a rising prospect under the 10th Planet’s Martinez brothers.

Another IBJJF proven competitior to have been defeated in the first round was Kristina Barlaan much to the surprise of many spectators. After all Barlaan is the Worlds bronze winner in the category. Barlaan was eliminated by Gabby Romero in Overtime.

Another interesting moment was Gabi Mcombs victory over Talita Alencar. In spite of Alencar coming off strong Mcomb managed to hold on and startegize her way to a victory.

Finals featured two youngesters – standing respectively at 18 and 19 years of age. Renzo Gracie’s lineage once again proved strong through Karel Silverfox Pravec’ Erin Blanchfield who proved her reputation as a huge up and comer even though she got her purple belt just under a year ago. She faced off against the strategic Mcomb who trains under Gracie Humaita’s Leticia Ribeiro but her tactics betrayed her and Erin Blanchfield triumphed.
