Second edition of the Chael Sonnen’s submission only tournament has just concluded. Plenty of fighters fought in the octagon but majority of the attention was captivated by the 3 main fights –
Jon Jones vs Dan Henderson
Miesha Tate vs Jessica Eye
and
Jeff Monson vs Warren Brooks
Main event of the evening saw Jon Jones tapping out the recently retired UFC fighter Dan Henderson. Jones won via arm triangle choke from the mount after close to 7 minutes.
Of course the event followed Eddie Bravo Invitational rules so if a submission had not been in place the fight would’ve went into overtime.
When the main fight was concluded Jones announced he sees himself facing Chael Sonnen next to which Sonnen replied he will see him January 29th (for the 3rd edition of the event)
Miesha Tate vs Jessica Eye had some controversy. After the initial temperature setting the two clinched but not much else happened. Tate escalated went for double overhooks but couldn’t roll Eye and gave up top position.
From there Tate caught the armbar and had Eye’s arm extended. The maych was stopped due to a submission but eye contended the decision and claimed she didn’t tap. The match was then restarted with the two standing. Following this little odd situations Tate couldn’t finish. In the end Tate won via quickest escape.
MMA vet Jeff Monson had the 3rd most interesting bout. Monson’s opponent had 70 pounds on Monson – just over 30kg! The two played half guard and exchanged a variation of positions but the fight ended up going into overtime.
In the overtime Monson got the RNC in 46 second while his opponent couldn’t finish so Monson pulled free.
