Submission Underground 2 Announced: Jon Jones vs Henderson To Headline

Chael Sonnen’s Submission Underground will see a second event fairly soon. Jon Jones is expected to appear in SU2 grappling against recently retired Dan Henderson.

The event will be taking place December 11th at the Roseland THeater in Portland, Oregon.

Chael Sonnen announced the pairing on The MMA Hour about an hour after Jon Jones had received a year’s worth of suspension for failing a drug test for UFC 200.

“I don’t think that affects it,” said Sonnen, who claimed he was unaware of the suspension at the time of his announcement. “… Grappling never has in the past, but the commission, if they ask for something, particularly if you’re making a deal, you want to do it their way. So I imagine there could be some red tape there.

“I don’t have a concern about it,” Sonnen continued to The MMA Hour. “But I suppose we have to go back to the other side and make sure there’s nothing missing there.”

Jones apparently consumed a tainted pill for enhancing sexual performance but USADA did not take it lightly they still see him at fault for the reckless lack of due diligence he showed by taking it in the first place.

Jones will be fighting in the UFC Octagon sometime after July 2017 if the Nevada Athletic Commission doesn’t add to the fine.

“The deal was pretty easy. Jon had come to the table pretty quick, and Jon suggested it,” Sonnen said. “He said, ‘why don’t we do Dan Henderson?’ We were in talks with Nick Diaz, Michael Bisping wanted the match, and we kind of took Jon’s advice. We thought, well, you know what, that does make some sense. That’s the match that never happened, and we might be the only promotion to ever get these two guys together. So there it is.”

Co main event of the night will be Miesha Tate grappling it out with Jessica Eye!

4 more fights are expected to be announced!
