Jones BJJ Coach Evaluates His Grappling Level & Who He Should Grapple in Superfight

Jon Jones recently expressed interest in returning to grappling while he awaits octagon return.

However the funding for Submission Underground seems to have suspiciously gone downhill since flocombat has been struggling – in fact the last edition of SUG was streamed free on Chael Sonnen’s youtube. A far cry from Polaris, EBI and Quintet who are enjoying their tenure on fight pass.

Gilbert Burns, who is fresh off his Polaris victory was among the first to throw his hat in the mix:

And he even got a reply from Jones unlike many others

In a tweet that has been deleted since Danis said:
“I could submit you and [Brock] Lesnar in the same night”

Some of the names thrown in the mix are DeBlass, Sonnen, Spriggs, Danis & Lovato. No word yet as to which promotion would host the event.

Jones BJJ/Grappling coach Roberto Tussa Alencar told GracieMag about his student’s level of grappling and who he should face:

“I think this grappling fight is interesting for him to stay active. Investing in the Jiu-Jitsu part is important to continue to activate his progression, both in the submissions and in the takedowns and fights. He has fame and experience in MMA, he is very successful in MMA and his grappling match with Dan Henderson was a success, generated a lot of interest.

“He is complete on the ground. He has a strong base in wrestling for years. I have worked with him for years, working on refining the submissions, defenses and tactics of Jiu-Jitsu. He’s still blue belt, but without a gi on he has black belt level. The fact that he does not have the black belt is that there is a time to fulfill and a lot to learn, like dedicating himself to the techniques and philosophy of Jiu-Jitsu before he reaches the black belt. ”

“I advised him to get an MMA athlete as an opponent, like Vitor Belfort or Rashad Evans. I do not think it’s time for him to get a top Jiu-Jitsu guy for this challenge. Now, from the experience he has, a super-fight against another MMA athlete would be the best for his return. He has been training on the ground frequently, but we will certainly get a boost as soon as a contract comes out. He is excited and wants to fight Jiu-Jitsu. Now it’s a matter of time until he gets this grappling match. “
