Gordon Ryan Looking For Someone To Host An IBJJF rules GI Match Against Felipe Pena

Gordon Ryan’s transition to the gi has been well hyped but ultimately it’s been very slow to take off. Not one for the patient approach Ryan recently announced this challenge via IG stories:

Ryan has been killing it on the sub only scene for the better part of last two years. However Felipe Pena remains his kryptonite.

This challenge comes as quite a surprise as Ryan has outlined a slow progress he plans to apply to his gi competitive career:

People have been asking me about gi training. You have to understand that i trained in the gi for a few years and even competed in the gi up until early black belt. But I never had any “gi training” meaning I basically just wore the gi and did no gi minus a bow and arrow strangle. I’ve now been grip training in the gi since January. Things take time and I don’t expect to go out and submit top level guys right away as everyone expects me to. I expect to progress from local shows, to world class guys, to world beaters over the time span of 2-3 years just like i did without the gi. My plan is to get comfortable competing the last half of this year and then attack some higher level guys next year. Remember, I’m a hard and intelligent worker, not a magician who lives in the hyperbolic time chamber. @hypnotik Photo by @shawna.rodgers
