Dillon Danis Believes Himself To Be The Savior For The BJJ Community

Rubbing elbows with the notorious Irishman Conor McGregor has rubbed off on Marcelo Garcia black belt Dillon Danis. Danis has been garnering the attention of main stream media since he joined the camp of McGregor.

The 23 year old remains convinced UFC is the right place for him:

“I honestly think I can go my first fight in the UFC, and I think I would dominate,” Danis said during Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour (via MMA Fighting). “I say that 100 percent being fact. I’m not a stupid person and I know what I’m capable of. I know who I’ve trained with, and I know what I’ve seen.”

Danis most recently managed to secure a submission victory over Jackson Sousa at Polaris 4. He won via inside heel hook.

When asked if he believes he’s the savior of the bjj community he replied:

Do you feel you’re kinda like the savior of the bjj community, like this is what they needed – you’re the guy they needed to spice up the sport?

“I think so. I’m the one who goes out to a Knick game, and Knicks know who I am. I’m the one who goes on the streets and people are screaming my name. That’s what I meant when I said I transcend the sport. “

He went on to compare his stature to Buchecha:

“Buchecha, much respect to him, he’s an amazing athlete but when you go on the street probably no one really knows who he is… ”

adding shortly after: ” I think I transcend the sport unlike other jiu jitsu guys. I think I’m the one building the sport up, how many other people are getting there…”

Reportedly Danis had the joy of hanging out with Kristaps Porziņģis who is a fan of Danis’ in addition to playing for the knicks. Danis also hangs out with rappers, which apparently is a huge validation.

Danis also admits he’s mauling over a CFFC MMA offer for a debut in February.

It’s unclear at what weight Danis would fight. But one man with a target on his back? Young UFC superstar Sage Northcutt.
