Demian Maia Returning To Octagon For Sao Paulo Event

Demian Maia was itching to get his title shot at a UFC Fight Night event in Sao Paulo however Woodley made a smart play and got the match expedited only to follow up with a lackluster title defense.

Now Demian Maia is ready to get back in the octagon and he’ll be facing American Top Team’s Colby Covington.

Covington went so far as to raise the stakes saying quote: “ Loser has to retire ”

Let’s raise the stakes. Loser has to retire @demianmaia #easymoney #embarrassmenttour #retirementtour #ufc @ufc

Maia (25-7) recently had his seven-fight winning streak snapped in a title fight against Tyron Woodley, losing via unanimous decision in July. Prior to that bout, Maia finished the likes of Carlos Condit, Matt Brown and Neil Magny.

Covington is on his own winning spree having won 4 fights in a row to complete his longest winning streak since joining the UFC. He last defeated Dong Hyun Kim via decision in June.

The main event of the card will be Derek Brunson vs Lyoto Machida.

Since the title shot Maia has been mostly having fun with the bjj side of things hosting seminars and traveling.
