Did you know that Mike Kroeger, bassist for the popular rock band Nickelback, is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt?
Yup – and he’s been training for years, even at the expense of his own health!
Because, as he revealed in a recent “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit, Kroeger has suffered BJJ injuries in the past that have had an impact on his career:
I’ve been doing Jiu-Jitsu for about 20 years and I have hurt my fingers.
Fractured both of my thumbs.
Did a record with a broken thumb and a tour with another broken thumb. But that doesn’t happen so much anymore.
He continues to explain that he trains like a “regular guy” does – without being involved in the so-called “celebrity classes”:
At Rigan’s school, there are rumours of these celebrity classes. I don’t know what that is.
I know he does train celebrities, but he trains the most famous “celebrities” in private.I’ve never trained in a “celebrity class”. They don’t exist.
These guys do privates like Mel Gibson and Ashton Kutcher and all these guys. They do private classes and I don’t know if they spar, they may not.I just go to the regular classes with the rest of the regular people!
And we do live rolls.
