It’s official: Mikey Musumeci, the reigning ONE Championship flyweight submission grappling world champion, will put his skills to the test against none other than the great Shinya Aoki!
The match was announced for October 6, 2023, at ONE Fight Night 15 on Prime Video:

Shinya Aoki is a very experienced mixed martial arts fighter, with an acquired taste for submission victories.
The Japanese national is a former ONE Championship lightweight MMA world title holder, as well as a veteran of almost 60 professional fights…
Out of which 30 (!) victories were via submission.
Aoki has also competed in several submission grappling events. For instance, he is an ADCC veteran – but he also competed in the first-ever submission grappling match in ONE Championship history, back in 2017, when he lost to Garry Tonon.

Shinya Aoki also outweighs Mikey Musumeci by a significant margin.
Though it’s almost certain that Musumeci will follow through his usual tactic nevertheless – going straight for the submission, from the very onset of the match.
He is coming off a recent win against another MMA fighter, Jarred Brooks, whom he submitted via an Armbar…
But it will be interesting to see how he’ll do against a submission specialist (and black belt in his own right), Shinya Aoki!
