MMA stars Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev are at the center of controversy…
As Benoit Saint Denis, a rising contender in the UFC lightweight division, has accused them for the use of Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs).
Khabib Nurmagomedov, revered for his dominance in the lightweight category and a recent inductee into the UFC Hall of Fame, retired from professional fighting in 2020.
His departure followed a win against Justin Gaethje in Abu Dhabi, marking the end of a phenomenal career.
Islam Makhachev, currently the top-ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC, made headlines with his spectacular first-round high-kick knockout victory over featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in their recent rematch.
The PED allegations aren’t new to Makhachev, however; as he previously faced scrutiny for his connection with the banned substance meldonium.
This history, coupled with Conor McGregor’s past accusations against him, has fueled Saint Denis’s claims.
Here’s what Saint Denis had to say in an interview with La Figaro:
Regarding the Nurmagomedov family, for example, I no longer have any doubt- They are loaded like mules.
They are intelligent in the way they do drugs, but they know how to do it very well.
He continued onto Makhachev:
Makhachev was caught with meldonium, for example, this is a product that got the entire Russian Federation sanctioned and removed from the 2016 Olympics.
The current UFC lightweight champion got caught in 2016.
Pour Benoît Saint-Denis, le dopage n’est pas compatible avec ses valeurs et sa foi. ❌🙏 pic.twitter.com/Omp662X96d
