Politics and so called ‘loyalty’ are still a big part of Jiu-Jitsu. What happens when an instructor meets a former student? It all depends on the way they parted and if they are still on civil terms. At the 2016 Pan, Saulo Ribeiro faced one of his black belts who is no longer under his association, and needless to say, Saulo did what he does best: smash and dominate.
The Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu Facebook page then posted the picture of Saulo applying a choke on the former student with the caption:
“Never bite the hand that feeds you.”
It’s not sure wether there is still bad blood between the two, but as you can see in the video below, they did not shake hands as is common in BJJ, but they just bowed to each other in the end, Judo style. At least they acknowledged each other.
