The arm drag is an explosive technique. It is best done with no-gi, but works with the gi as well, especially if you are outside the clinch
The goal of the armdrag is to grab your opponent and get an advantageous hold. The arm drag is an explosive
technique. It is best done with no-gi, but works with the gi as well, especially if you are outside the clinch. You and
your opponent are standing facing each other. Assuming he is standing in natural stance (he’s not a southpaw), his left
hand is slightly ahead of his right. You will be dragging his left arm.
While this move seems to “”all happen at once””, it can still be done in steps while you are learning it.
1. Slap his left wrist inward with your right hand as you step forward with your right foot.
2. Catch his left arm above the elbow with your left hand.
3. Pull him in to you as you step deep behind him.
4. Gable grip your hands and hug him low around his hips.
5. You should end up behind him or on his left side past his arm, giving you access to his back. If you aren’t all the
way behind him, you can use your grip around him to work to his back.
