Solo BJJ Drills for De la Riva and Spider Guard

Here are a few ways to work on your Spider, De La Riva and general open guard when you do not have a partner. Various BJJ players show you their methods.

In this video I am using my belt to help stretch and simulate my Spider guard set up and De la Riva set up. Building my muscle memory with the basic movements and fundamentals of these positions is very important to develop. Playing with this drill will help you understand to keep contact at all times and vary the amount of pressure you use to help move smoothly. I started doing this drill as a blue belt and it has become part of my warmup over the years. So enjoy and have fun with it!
