Jiu-Jitsu Fighter Defeats Orang Utan at Coconut Peeling Contest

Apes simply make the strongest of humans look like wimps.

As for the strength of the animals, an orangutan has the strength of 5 to 8 adult men, however generally 7 adult men.

Orangutans have tremendous grip strength, which enables them to hang upside-down from branches for long periods of time to retrieve fruit and eat young leaves. They use this grip strength to effortlessly peel coconuts and other fruits.

Singapore Zoo has an attraction where members of the public are called to challenge a champion orang utan, unbeaten at a friendly game of coconut peeling. This was back in 2006, and BJJEE.com‘s editor Guillaume (Gile) Huni (BJJ instructor at Kimura BJJ academy in Serbia) was on vacation in Singapore and decided to step up to impress his girlfriend and try to beat the Orang utan. Gile was then just a blue belt in BJJ. Because of his Brazilian jiu jitsu and judo training, he has a strong grip. Gile became the first man to ever beat the much to the amazement of the zoo keepers!

Gile stated:

I was in the audience and saw the orang utan. The hosts of the show seemed a bit arrogant when they said that no man could beat the orang utan, so I decided to go for it. The game started and I ripped the hell out of that coconut, and won at the last second. The zoo staff and the crowd couldn’t believe it. They told me that this had never happened before. I don’t really have a specially strong grip but I train a lot so I guess that it helped. The zoo staff was actually embarrassed after that and it seemed that I kind of ruined their show. They gave me a free t shirt and also a free picture of the seal giving me a kiss on the cheek lol. My girlfriend was impressed and 4 years later she became my wife!
