Is It Ever OK to Cross Your Ankles In Rear Mount?

In BJJ, beginners are taught very early to NEVER cross their ankles in the rear mount.

There is of course a terrible ankle lock if your opponent triangles their legs. The ankle lock is so strong that even if you have locked on a choke, you will be tapping much faster when they apply the ankle lock.

BJJ blackbelts Rob Biernacki and Stephan Kesting debunk the myth that it’s always a mistake to cross your ankles in rear mount.
