Andre Galvao Addresses Metamoris Incident With “Renato Laranja”

Fictional comedic BJJ character Renato Laranja was seen at Metamoris IV at the end of the Galvao vs Sonnen match, refusing Chael’s handshake. Galvao had just beaten Sonnen, and as is the tradition, the fighters went to their opponent’s corner to shake hands with the coaches. Renato Laranja was present in Galvao’s corner and refused to shake Sonnen’s hand all under the eye of the cameras.

Renato is a  fictional comedic character played by American actor Rhasaan Orange who is a brown belt under Eddie Bravo. Laranja comes across as an arrogant Brazilian black belt with a huge ego.

Galvao had this to say about the incident on his facebook page:

“The guy at the end who didn’t shake Chael’s hand is not my corner man. I know it was a joke but at the same time it was very disrespectful. 1st for me because I didn’t told him to be there at my corner and 2nd for Chael because I tell all my corner men to have respect for my opponents. #clear ”
