Abu Dhabi Grand Slam London – Behind the scenes

 

The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam held two weeks ago in London impressed the BJJ community with a show never seen before in Europe. The event was held as the prestigious London Excel which hosted Olympic events.

After winning double gold at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam in Rio de Janeiro last December, Ricardo Evangelista repeated the feat on Saturday (19) at the Abu Dhabi London Grand Slam, which is organized by UAEJJF (UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation). The GFTeam ultra heavyweight took double gold after securing first place in the division above 94kg and also in the open weight. In the female division, after being featured in the HSBC Arena last year Tayane Porfirio took the title fighting above 70kg.

To ensure the gold by fighting in the category above 94kg, Ricardo Evangelista submitted André Campos to with a beautiful bow and arrow choke. In the final of the absolute, Evangelista defeated Erberth Santos by guillotine choke , who himself took the title in the 94kg division buy defeating Faisal Al-Kitbe.

Other champions in the black belt were also set this Saturday were Rodnei Barbosa in the category up to 62kg, James Bravo in the division to 69kg,  Alan Finfou at up to 77kg, and Charles Santos, who took the gold up to 85kg.

Tayane Porfirio back to shine and ensures double gold again

After the titles in absolute weight and the stage of the Rio de Janeiro, Tayane Porfirio returned to shine and had an excellent performance also in London, England. The fighter from Alliance first secured the gold in the 70kg division up to defeat Tereza Souza in the final. Soon after, already in the open weight Tayane had another great performance and beat Marina Ribeiro.
