Joe Rogan Talks How Alcohol Negatively Affects A Fighter’s Career

Sure, alcohol is fun… But how “fun” is it when you’re trying to create a career for yourself in professional fighting?

That’s exactly the topic that Joe Rogan and Belal Muhammad, UFC welterweight contender, discussed in a Joe Rogan Experience MMA episode.
Rogan emphasized the fact that drinking is fun, but that there are no positive side effects to it in the long run. Especially if you are a professional fighter, in which case you’re doing a great disservice to your recovery:

By not drinking, you’re probably adding time to your career. Drinking’s fun, there’s a reason why people like to do it, there’s a reason why bars are everywhere. But, the reality is it’s fuc*ing terrible for you.

And if you’re a professional athlete, and you’re in this world of professional athleticism, that has very little room for error – in the hardest sport in the world…
If you can maximize your recovery and maximize your health and maximize your vitality by not drinking alcohol, I would tell people to do it.

Rogan says that drinking a bit here and there is nothing, but there are limits:

Maybe a glass of wine here and there, maybe a glass of whiskey, no big deal… But, guys will get drunk. Guys will really party and drink and, like, you’re really chipping away at your health.
