One of the most respected names in the history of Jiu-Jitsu and MMA, Rickson Gracie is considered a legend in both sports. Keeping a close eye on both sports, “The Brazilian Samurai”, in an interview with TATAME magazine, revealed which BJJ fighters he most likes to watch in action.
“I like to see Marcus Buchecha fight, Kron (his son) and others. There are several that I admire, but many only use the strategy to win a medal. They think only about the medal and not in being better than the opponent. They are just strategic, nota modern gladiator. There are great champions in Jiu-Jitsu. None of them are bad on the mat, or poorly trained. The strategy used to win the title annoys me.”
Last January, Rickson’s son, Kron had announced that he is now focused on MMA , but that competing in Jiu-Jitsu is still in his plans.
The 2013 ADCC Champion and BJJ black belt debuted in MMA with victory on December 2014 in Japan by armbar.
With regard to mixed martial arts, Rickson Gracie even admits that there are good names in action, especially in the UFC, but still hopes to find “the one” who will save the Jiu-Jitsu style.
“There are several super-skilled, trained, strong Brazilian fighters. But I did not, yet, see a Brazilian that I feel is a complete fighter in the cage. There are great athletes, but each lacks a little bit of this or a little bit of that … I see many with power striking, however, in my heart, I believe in Jiu-Jitsu. I still pray for this idol to appear. l I’m trying (laughs) ” Ended Rickson, who will bet on his son, Kron.
Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
