Kit Dale Admits Jiu-Jitsu Helped Him Overcome Insecurity: “I Was A Very Shy Kid”

Kit Dale has become one of the most recognizable personalities in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu thanks to his humor, creativity, and laid-back approach to the sport.

But behind the entertaining videos and confident presence was someone who once struggled heavily with insecurity.

According to Dale, that insecurity is actually what first brought him to the mats.
Here is what he had to say in an interview with BJJEE:

I was originally introduced to BJJ because I wanted to become more confident with myself physically.

I was always a very shy and insecure kid, especially when it came to physical confrontations.
So, I wanted to learn how to protect myself.

But what made him stay was something completely different:

I fell in love with Jiu-Jitsu because of the problem solving part of it.
I always describe to people that BJJ is like trying to solve a mathematical equation that is self aware and trying to solve you at the same time.

That combination of strategy, adaptation, and unpredictability is what hooked him long-term:

The problem solving part is what kept me in the sport.

He also pointed to another reason Jiu-Jitsu stood out compared to many other competitive activities:

It’s one of the rare arts or sports that you can compete at a 100% effort and still walk away unscathed most of the time.
