Multiple BJJ world champion Gilbert Durinho Burns had an unforgettable year. He won the No Gi Worlds by beating Leandro Lo, he also maintained his unbeaten record in MMA and gained national prominence by knocking out Paul Bananada, student of of Anderson Silva . The black Jiu-Jitsu black belt also had three overwhelming victories for his team with Vitor Belfort’s amazing form. He spoke to Tatame:

“It was a year of maturation, growth. The fight against Bananada made me evolve, become more professional. I think that 2013 was profitable, and I closed it with a knockout over Bananada. I conquered the No Gi Worlds for the second time … Vitor (Belfort) is in amazing form. I am very happy.

About his plans for Jiu-Jitsu in 2014:

“I love Jiu-Jitsu. There are many people telling me: ‘Durinho, don’t ever stop training Jiu-Jitsu’. There’s no way I will stop Jiu-Jitsu. I wear Kimono few times a week, but, without it, I workout everyday. In 2014, I will fight the big events such as the Europeans, Worlds in California, the Abu Dhabi World Pro … If I can train three months kimono, I will fight the Worlds .

Now that he has joined the Blackzilians he is in the right direction to get a chance in the UFC . However, he prefers to take caution and to not rush:

“Things will come in time. Of course I want to be there, but it will happen naturally. I do not want to rush anything. I’ll evolve as a fighter, as a person, as a coach and, sooner or later, my time will come. “
