Lucas Lepri Talks Steroids: “Which Is More Important – A Title Or Your Mental Health?”

Lucas Lepri is a multiple time IBJJF world champion, who won every world lightweight title from 2014 to 2019. Today, he is proud of these accomplishments – even more so because he never took steroids.
Lepri shared his thoughts on athletes who use steroids, in a recent Instagram post:

I admire all champions. But those who train and win honestly, without having to take anabolic steroids to be champions, have all my respect.

Just a warning to athletes who listen to incentives from their teachers or professionals for the use of anabolic steroids to have a better performance. I was lucky to be guided by my KP coach @kinephys, who assured me that I would get to my best version without needing any steroids but that it would take longer.
Thank God, I had the knowledge to listen and absorb what he told me 13 years ago.

He understands that the “path without steroids” can often be a frustrating one for those who wish to succeed. But he also advises them to ask themselves an important question:

It can often be frustrating for those who don’t go that route. But what do they think is more important: a title or their physical and mental health?!

This is the report of athletes who have already taken [steroids]: “Once you win your first competition using steroids, you will always want to use or feel the need to use them.”
Stealing to win is like denying the very glow that God has given us. The feeling of absolute worthiness [of the win], I can assure you, is the best feeling in the world. Conscience is our best friend!
