SAS Team Expels Black Belt Involved in Street Fight with Rival Team Member

The very respected SAS Team has reacted to one of their black belts getting into a street fight with another black belt from a rival team, by expelling him.

This fight between a group of BJJ competitors happened last weekend in Fortaleza, Brazil at the Pan American Jiu-Jitsu of Confederates Brazilian professional fights.
According to Diaro do Nordeste an argument started between two rival Ju-Jitsu teams inside the competition and they went outside to battle it out.

The scene was recorded in video. The two fighters involved in the fight are black belts in jiu-jitsu Thiago Maia (Nova Uniao) and Thyago Frota (SAS). The athletes presented different versions as to how the fight erupted, but both said that they were sorry.

Statement from SAS Team, Guybson Sa to BJJEE:

Just to clarify on the black belt street fight that SAS team athlete was expelled from the team but several witnesses said he was attacked first but our policy does not tolerate any of our students specially black belts being in situations like this.

They used a mix of Jiu-Jitsu techniques and good old street fighting techniques. You can some members of Gracie Barra in the crowd surrounding the fight.

Thyago Frota was the champion in his category. The police had to intervene to separate them and restore order.

SAS Team was founded by red belt Master Francisco Sá (RIP). He dedicated his life to the art and taught over 25.000 students though his Martial Arts career. He has 3 sons: Sazinho, Guybson and Robson Sá who are keeping his hard work and dreams alive through SAS TEAM BJJ.

We believe that excluding him shows the right message to the BJJ youth that street fighting should not be tolerated.

Nova Uniao has not made any statement regarding their black belt Thiago Maia.
