Royce Gracie: “My Nephew’s Online Programs Are Not A True Representation Of Helio Gracie Jiu-Jitsu”

Tension in between Gracie family members is increasing regarding the controversial Gracie online University.

Following Rener Gracie’s recent comments that he thought that ‘Learning Jiu-Jitsu Online Is Even More Effective Than In The Academy’:
From Rener Gracie:

“Some people do not understand that online study is even more effective than learning in the traditional school. In a live class, there are students of all stripes, and the teacher gives the same lesson for everyone. Online, each one has its specific class. Some people tried to learn in the classroom, but the lessons were random, and some students had difficulty learning. And what did they do? Resorted to Gracie University. “

His uncle Royce Gracie has joined the growing list of Jiu-Jitsu personalities (such as Murilo Bustamante and Draculino) who are against the Gracie online University and about promoting belts online.

After having indirectly criticized his nephews a few days ago, Royce Gracie has now officially made a statement on his instagram account:

With all due respect, our nephew’s curriculums and online programs are not a true representation of the teaching method, belt grading, and philosophy that we learned from our father, Grandmaster Helio Gracie. They have the right to modify our battle-tested jiu-jitsu system as they see fit, but we feel that it is our duty to ensure that our father’s name is not misrepresented. While videos, books and online resources may serve as supplements to jiu-jitsu practitioners, provenly, they can never, by any means, substitute live lessons in a qualified academy.
