Gilbert Burns Helps BJJ Student Return to Training After Brain Surgery

Gilbert Burns is both a great athlete and a fantastic human being. Namely, after his UFC 273 fight with Khamzat Chimaev – during which he challenged Chimaev as none other athlete did in the UFC up until now – Burns is now back to training… Using his time on the BJJ mats to help one of his students to get back on track, following a brain surgery.

Matt, Burns’ student, shared a video clip of his return to the mats with Burns to his side:

Burns reposted the same video on his Instagram account, saying:

A pleasure get my guy Matt @brainsurgerysurvivor back to Jiu-Jitsu after a serious Brain surgery! Believe me Matt it was more beneficial for me than for you!

Matt has been diagnosed with a condition called hydrocephalus. It’s a brain condition where there’s a buildup of fluid in the so-called ventricles, that are located deep within the brain; the excess of these fluids can exhibit internal pressure on the brain.
That’s the reason why Matt had to go through the brain surgery. He has been steadily documenting his entire recovery journey and is making amazing progress.

Feel free to check out his journey on his Instagram profile.
