Braulio Estima debuted in MMA in 2012 with victory by submission. His plan was to follow a career in mixed martial arts, however, a neck injury, which occurred in 2010, buried once and for all that idea.
In an exclusive interview with Tatame, Braulio explained in detail why we made this decision. Even after the injury, he fought in MMA, but says that he lost some strength and did not want to put his health at risk. He will now be only focusing on Jiu-Jitsu.
“It was a very difficult decision for me. It took me a little over a year to be sure. The biggest factor, besides the radical change in the lifestyle with having a family and the focus shifted to so many projects, was the bruise on my neck, where I injured my C4 and C5 in 2011. During hard training, I felt weaker in my arms because of the nerve damage, then that weighed heavily in my decision. It was a tough but correct decision, I believe. “
“At first it was a little frustrating because I heard people that I admire saying that I could be a champion. I was occupying my with other things that give me pleasure and I’m happy training and teaching Jiu-Jitsu, which is what I love. I’m happy to have had an MMA fight and also continue to help so many other top MMA athletes through my experience in Jiu-Jitsu. ”
Braulio highlights that he has several projects underway – He will open an academy in Florida, with his friend Wally Holem. However, he did not rule out the world Pro in Abu Dhabi and California.
“I’m training to fight the World of California. Hopefully the body can withstand the pressure of training. If it works, I can also compete in World Pro “.
