Ben Kunzle is a BJJ brown belt under Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu, who has been preparing for the World Championships back in May this year. However, during training, he suffered a severe spinal cord injury to his C5 and C6 vertebrates… Which left him tetraplegic.
A GoFundMe page has been created, where Ben explained the severity of his condition:
This injury left me tetraplegic, unable to move my lower extremities and my fingers, but thankfully still able to move my arms. Due to this, I am now unable to do what I love most: train Jiu-Jitsu and provide for myself by working… For now!

Kunzle has been putting in the work with rehabilitation therapists, but a bumpy road is ahead of him:
Since the injury, I’ve significantly improved my mobility through the constant help of my rehabilitation therapists (gradually gaining back the strength and control in my arms and core).
As you can imagine, all of this doesn’t come without financial consequences due to the medical, rehab, and life-adjustment costs. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any health insurance at the time of the injury.
