2014 Copa Podio Lightweight GP: Leandro Lo Retains Title For 3rd Straight Year

The semifinals of the Copa Podio lightweight GP was made up of Leandro Lo, Gregor Gracie (Green group) and Gilbert Durinho and Victor Silverio (group yellow).

In the first semi final, Leandro Lo managed 8 x 0 over Victor Silvério, advancing to the final and facing the winner between Gregor Gracie and Gilbert “Durinho “, in the most highly anticipated fight of the night.

In what can only be described as a spectacular fight, Gregor Gracie took down Gilbert “Durinho” with under 1 minute left on the clock, turning the score to 4 x 2 in his favor. He now comes to heads with the current Lightweight GP champion, Leandro Lo, in the fight for the night’s highest spot on the podium.

In the battle for third place in the Copa Podio Lightweight GP, Victor Silvério beat Gilbert “Durinho” in the very last second. Silvério managed to secure advantages that tied the fight and won thanks to 1 penalty less.

The Final:

In a simply spectacular end to the night, with a battle that remained tied literally to the end, Leandro Lo’s champion heart was put to the test. In the closing seconds, he extended his lead by 5 points and managed to grab Gregor Gracie’s arm, submitting him through an arm bar and securing his title as grand champion in Copa Podio history. The three-time champ is still the man to beat in the Lightweight category.
