John Danaher is one of the greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coaches in the history of the sport.
Both due to the many athletes who have seen success under his tutelage, but also because of the way he enabled thousands of BJJ practitioners around the world to understand the Gentle Art in a very different, much more detailed way.
And, as is the case for many great people, there are anecdotes around Danaher.
For example, one of the most frequently spoken about ones is that he always wears a rashguard, no matter the occasion.
Well, a woman that goes by the name of Brittney Leigh on Medium, claims that she had gone out on a date with Danaher – and that he did, in fact, wear a rashguard:
I met him near the entrance of a high-end restaurant.
He did, in fact, wear a black rash guard and dress pants.
So how did the date go?
In the words of Leigh, John Danaher is a respectful person to talk to:
I’d really hoped to discuss the sport, but he ended up asking me a ton of questions, and seemed especially interested in my travel experiences.
He was a great listener. We didn’t walk around the park I think due to the weather, but parted ways.
He knew I was just there a few days and said I could message him if I’m ever back in the city.
She mentioned the things she liked about Danaher:
Politeness, feeling respected, being treated to dinner.
